CULT MOVIE RESEARCH
Hot, Cool or Cult?
The Global Reception of Contemporary Cult Cinema.
‘Hot, Cool or Cult?’ is a research project, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and executed by the Centre for Cinema Studies of the Department of Theatre and Film at the University of British Columbia.
The project wants to investigate how changes in the use of the term ‘cult’ have been affecting its original meaning (if there ever was one), and how they have been influencing what audiences actually think of a film.
Is it becoming more difficult to find cult films today?
Or are they everywhere?
Does every film count as cult, potentially?
Or are only a very few chosen?
What is the reputation of the term
‘cult reputation’?
We’d like to give you some more information about the project, about the context within which it is situated, and about the background of the research team, and its antecedents.
